SE25.2 Göteborg – Mulled Wine on the Runway

2 December 2025Episode #51By Stefan

Göteborg welcomed us with open arms and a wonderful Christmas market. The city was festively decorated, lights everywhere, the scent of cinnamon buns and glögg (Swedish mulled wine) in the air, and that particular atmosphere that only the pre-Christmas period can create. The market was cosy and genuine – Swedish crafts, local specialities and plenty of candlelight.

And where did we sleep? On an old military airfield. No joke. An abandoned runway, not a soul around, just us and our campervan among old hangars. The contrast could hardly be greater: daytime Christmas cheer with mulled wine and fairy lights, night-time lost-place atmosphere on a former military site.

But that’s exactly what makes this kind of travel so special. You don’t plan every hour; you let yourself drift, and in the end you come away with stories that simply can’t be booked anywhere. Göteborg was warm and festive, the airfield was cold and adventurous – together, a perfect day.
