SE25.1 Kungshamn β The Forgotten Island
In Kungshamn we discovered something that captured us completely, quite out of nowhere: a small island where stone was once quarried. The quarrying is long since over, but what it left behind is breathtaking.
Deep cuts in the rock, perfectly straight walls carved by human hands into the stone, and calm, clear water that has since filled the old quarry pools. It feels like another world β half industrial monument, half natural wonder. The silence on this island is almost tangible. No traffic, no other visitors, just the wind and the gentle lapping of the water.
You can spend hours clambering around, marvelling at the bizarre formations, wondering how many people must have laboured here to extract these stones from the rock. Nature has reclaimed the place; moss and grass cover the old broken edges, and the result is a place of otherworldly beauty. Kungshamn is one of those hidden gems that appears in no travel guide β and thatβs precisely what makes it so special.
