After the busy streets of Vilnius, we longed for a few calm days in nature. Trakai National Park is only a 30-minute drive away, and we had heard so much about its beauty. Unfortunately, the forecast wasn’t great, with lots of rain on the horizon. However, we decided a long time ago that we can’t only visit places when the sun is shining. Otherwise we wouldn’t get very far, would we?

So, embracing the rain, we picked one of the few car parks as our home for the next couple of days and, given the late hour, headed to the only restaurant open in the area.

The “ambience” was Grandma’s-basement chic, and a huge TV mounted on the wall was blasting some very unrelaxing music at full volume at the guests cough cough erm… us. There were no other guests.

The chefs eyed us very suspiciously, almost as if they were judging us for making them work, but we didn’t care. We were hungry, and the food was really delicious! About two seconds after we left the restaurant, the lights went out and the chefs hopped into a car and drove off, while we walked back to Wilma in the pouring rain.

The weather improved ever so slightly over the next couple of days, enough for us to venture out on a few walks, but the planned hikes had to be cancelled.

The nature in the national park is phenomenal, and it’s a shame we didn’t get to enjoy it to the full.
