After our forced break from van life for a good two months, we are finally back on the road. Wilma has a new transmission and there is nothing stopping us from travelling again 🚐💨

Our original Morocco–Portugal–Spain plan is now officially off the table and, with a fixed appointment back in Germany at the beginning of July, we decided to focus on France instead.

Provence, to be exact.

Take it slow. Get to know the country. Relax.

In stark contrast to our previous journey, we also decided against doing what we call “big pushes” at the beginning — long driving days just to quickly reach a faraway destination or starting point.

And that is exactly how we ended up in Liverdun.

Only around a four-hour drive away (we also adjusted our travelling speed slightly thanks to rising fuel prices) and the park-up looked nice enough for a night.

What we absolutely didn’t expect was just how beautiful Liverdun would turn out to be.

Tucked away in a bend of the river, it’s a lovely little town with a château sitting on top of the hill overlooking everything below. The weather was fully on our side as well and we were simply happy.

We went for a small walk up to the château and enjoyed a non-alcoholic beer and a lemonade. The server told us there would be a free “rock concert” in the evening and that we were more than welcome to join. Drinks would just be €1 more expensive to help finance the band.

And so we treated ourselves to a free concert that evening.

Granted, it wasn’t exactly Bruce Springsteen rocking the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, but the drummer and bassist were genuinely great. The lead singer should probably focus on playing guitar instead though 🤪

We liked the town so much that we decided to stay an extra day and really take things slowly — just like we had promised ourselves.

What a fantastic start to this new adventure!
