MA8: Tata
Tata was one of the villages that came highly recommended and it didn’t (fully) disappoint. It is a nice little quaint village and it has a river flowing through the middle of it … when there is water. Which there wasn’t much of.
Tata has a rather big palm tree park that you can walk through, or if you’re a local you can race your little moped through it. We chose the walking option and found it actually a very nice experience. I am not sure I have ever seen this many palm trees in one place as a park.
Apart from the park Tata really just is a village like any other, but we did think that there was something different to it, almost as if the presence of water (or the memory of it) instils a different way of life.
Today, unfortunately, the dry river bed is littered with trash – something we have seen quite a few times. Other travellers told us that the locals hope that the Wadi (dry riverbed that carries water only after heavy rainfalls) will wash away all the (rubbish) sins.
Well, that doesn’t solve the problem, does it? We have been told that younger generations get taught about it now in school, but it seems to be an issue that will only resolve with generational shifts. Let’s see.
