NO25.20 Trollstigen – The Road That Never Ends

Trollstigen. Even the name sounds like an adventure, and that’s exactly what it is. This road is one of the most famous and spectacular in the world – eleven hairpin bends set into a dramatic mountain landscape, with waterfalls plunging right alongside the carriageway.

The problem: you can barely make any progress. Not because of traffic, but because you have to stop every few metres to take photos. Every bend offers a new angle, every switchback a new “wow.” It’s almost impossible to simply drive through without constantly reaching for the camera.

From the viewing platform at the top, you get the perfect panorama of the entire route – the switchbacks winding through the mountains like a ribbon, and only from up here do you truly grasp what you’ve just driven through. Absolutely iconic and an essential stop for anyone travelling in this area. But bring time – lots of it.
